Yesterday was a sad day for Californians, gay and straight alike. Our rights as citizens have been grossly encroached upon and our rights to marry who we love has once again been taken away. While I believe this will merely be a set-back for equal rights in California, the movement is continuing nationally and we will not stop until our love is able to be recognized throughout the nation, no matter which state we live in. The fight is alive in all of us and is being fueled by the California Supreme Courts decision to uphold Proposition 8. History shows us that good will prevail and that homophobia in this country is diminishing on a daily basis. We will once again be able to marry in California.

"Decision Day" is finally here. We heard today that on Tuesday, May 26, the California Supreme Court will announce its decision to either uphold or overturn Proposition 8. It's hard to avoid feeling this giant pit in my stomach constantly reminding me that our civil rights are hinged on exploring an obscure constitutional technicality. On May 15th, 2008 the California Supreme Court overturned the state's ban on gay marriage, stating that the previous marriage law violated the rights of gays and lesbians to marry and discriminated on the basis of sexual orientation. We are a country founded on freedoms for everyone and if the majority was allowed to rule marginalization of all minorities would continue to mandate the laws of our lands. I remain cautiously optimistic that Tuesday's decision with be in the favor of equality. Attorney General Jerry Brown said it as clear as anyone: "Voters lack the power to eliminate inalienable rights." Should Proposition 8 be upheld, it would appear that Jerry Brown, the California and United States Constitutions are wrong and it will be another sad day for this state and country in an already depressed society. And we will have to remind ourselves that this is just an inflection point in the movement for equal rights.
As a gay relationship expert and the creator the the Partner Perfect Compatibility Matching System, I know first hand the impact this decision is going to have on our myPartner.com customer's futures. Recognition and acceptance of one's relationship by our family and peers is a critical component of it's success. Marriage Equality has social and cultural influences that silently, and oftentimes vocally, hinder a gay mans ability to succeed in a long term committed relationship, regardless of how much both partners desire it.

Handsome! Sophisticated! Intelligent! Fun! Exciting! ...and most of all, eligible! Voting has begun on the nation's second annual most eligible gay bachelor contest. America’s Gay Bachelor is an annual nationwide contest to find the most eligible gay bachelors in America.
Patrick H. Perrine and myPartner.com have scoured the nation to find “America’s Most Eligible Gay Bachelor”. Now, nominations have ended for the second annual national hunt for America’s Gay Bachelor, and the state winners, including D.C., have been named.
Voting began on May 1st and in just the first weekend the nominated bachelors at myPartner.com received over 50,000 votes, more than all the votes combined for last year’s inaugural contest.
Anyone can vote for their favorite contestants on the myPartner.com website. “This is a great way for us to show everyone how our matchmaking system works, and have a little fun at the same time,” says Perrine. Voters can vote for as many bachelors as they like, or just their favorites. And voters can vote as often as they like.
Of the nominated bachelors, the top five finalists will be selected and flown to San Diego for the Finale Party on June 20th at the sexy rooftop W Beach Bar where a panel of guest judges will name America's Gay Bachelor 2009! The winner receives a complimentary Private Matchmaking Package from myPartner.com, a romantic getaway for two and will be the face of eligible gay bachelors in America! Tickets for the event go on sale May 15th at www.AmericasGayBachelor.com. The event will be star-studded and benefiting Marriage Equality USA!
“More and more gay men are looking for someone who’s marriage material,” says Patrick H. Perrine, the CEO of gay matchmaking site, myPartner.com, and host of the June 20 event. “We’re here to debunk the myth that gay men aren’t interested in finding lasting relationships, especially as states across the country begin to move towards legalizing gay marriage,” says Perrine.
